Causes and relief from Hepatitis A

Hep A or Hepatitis A is a contagious liver infection which is caused by the virus of the same name. Most people who catch this virus have mild symptoms that do not last more than a few weeks. But there are few cases that have severe problems and they can last for months. This mostly happens from food and drink which is contaminated by a person who already has the virus.

Before going for the hepatitis A treatment, one should know that this virus is mostly not dangerous. But it can take a while to go away and one needs to take care of themselves thoroughly during this tenure. When attacked by this virus, it can cause inflammation in the liver. Most of these problems tend to go away after a month or two but then it might keep coming back for up to 6 months.

Hepatitis A Causes

As it has been mentioned above, one can easily catch the virus by eating contaminated food or a drinking a contaminated drink. Other reasons are:

  • Eating fruits, vegetables and food prepared by a person who already has the virus.
  • Eating shellfish or raw fish from the water which has been contaminated by the virus.
  • Having sex with someone who already has the virus.
  • Swallow contaminated ice.
  • Touch your mouth after touching a contaminated object.

Hepatitis A Risk Factors mostly arrive to people, who are homeless, can use recreational drugs even without the use of the needles. They can be severe in cases of people who suffer from blood clotting disorders or have HIV.

If one thinks they have been exposed to Hepatitis A, then they must see the doctor right away. One can get a vaccine at hepatitis hospital which can prevent one from getting sick. But in order to make the vaccine work, one has to take it as soon as they come in contact with the virus. But if one has already been infected then it takes time (2 to 6 months) to heal.

If one is taking care of the virus by staying at home, here are a few things to follow:

  • Staying in is the best option here. Taking rest till the virus load decreases is the most important thing to do. Resting up can help one to stay away from the tiredness.
  • Hepatitis A can make the skin quite itchy. Hence one has to take care of their skin really well. Wearing loose clothes and skipping hot baths is the cure of this.
  • Eat small meals to not give pressure on the stomach. Heavy meals can make one throw up.
  • A loss of appetite is common but still one has to go for daily protein intake.
